Early on October 2, 2020, U.S. President Donald Trump, 74, revealed that he had tested positive for the novel corona virus. A day earlier, he had tested positive on a rapid test used for screening White House staff , which was later confirmed by a more accurate lab test. He was hospitalized at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland from October 2 to October 5, and during his short stay, he received medicines that had shown some effi cacy against COVID-19 in clinical trials.<\/p>\n
These included an experimental dual antibody therapy developed by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc; a five-day course of Gilead Sciences Inc’s antiviral, remdesivir; and the steroid, dexamethasone. The president has since been especially appreciative of Regeneron, touting the treatment as a \u2018miracle cure\u2019 and promising to make it freely available to all Americans in need. He received the antibody cocktail treatment via a compassionate use request (as clinical trials had not yet been completed and the drug had not yet been approved by the US FDA).<\/p>\n
On October 5, his blood samples showed that the he had protective antibodies. On October 8, the president said he is no longer contagious.<\/p>\n
