Bio-printing can be used to create blood vessels and synthetic ovaries (perhaps even a pancreas); such artificial organs then growing in the patient\u2019s body to replace original ones that are faulty or diseased. Artificial organs that are not rejected by the body\u2019s immune system could save millions of patients who depend on life-saving transplants.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong> 3-D printing <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>3-D printers, which can be used to create implants, and even joints, to be used during surgery, have become one of the most exciting technologies today. Among several approaches to genome editing, a recent one is CRISPR-Cas9 (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats and CRISPR-associated protein 9), which is not only more accurate, but also faster and more economical than other genome editing methods. Some of the biggest diseases, such as cancer and HIV, could potentially be overcome through modification of genes.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong> Health wearables<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Now, one can track everything from one\u2019s steps, physical fitness, and heartbeat to sleeping patterns using a smartphone. Surgeons can perform extremely complex operations that are very difficult, or even near impossible, through robotic surgery. Medical students can now also be able to get close to real life experience using such technology, and help them to gain the needed experience by rehearsing procedures and providing a visual understanding of the complexities of human anatomy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li><strong>Precision medicine <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Using precision medicine, doctors can select medicines and therapies to treat diseases based on an individual\u2019s genetic make-up, a far more effective method of treatment compared to conventional means. For example, in cases of cancer, precision medicine can attack tumors based on the patient\u2019s specific genes and proteins, leading to gene mutations and making it more susceptible to other cancer medications. Another example is rheumatoid arthritis, where precision medicine can weaken the disease\u2019s vulnerable genes and reduce symptoms and joint damage.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"9\">\n<li><strong> Telehealth <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Particularly useful for patients with chronic conditions, Telehealth allows them to receive medical care through their digital devices, saving time and money. Highly-personalized mobile apps allow patients to speak virtually with medical professionals and receive instant diagnosis and advice, thus providing convenient, consistent, and cost-effective care.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"10\">\n<li><strong> Smart inhalers <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Although inhalers, if taken correctly, will be effective for 90% of asthmatic patients, only about 50% of patients have their condition under control because they don\u2019t use inhalers properly. Bluetooth-enabled smart inhalers with a small device that records the date and time of each dose, and whether it was correctly administered, are a big help to such patients.
