Beauty is appreciated by everyone, and it is good to feel beautiful and to look beautiful. But it is also true that, with age, aging and its signs are visible, and one cannot rewind the clock. With time, we grace the aging and its signs, and we expect to do more than that, thanks to aesthetic procedures that help us slow the process. While talking about aesthetic services, we mean regenerative aesthetic clinics. Centrally located in Baluwatar is the aesthetic clinic, Healthy Choice, which is mostly known as ‘Clinic by Dr. Udip’ who is a certified Trichologist (USA, WTS) and a leading medical aesthetician and hair transplantation and restoration expert of Nepal.
He introduced one of the most advanced technologies, Micro Graft Stem Cells, in Nepal at Healthy Choice. Along with aesthetic and laser, skin and hair treatments and nutrition and dietetics are available in his clinic. When he was back in Nepal in 2018 after completing his studies, he saw the need for good aesthetic clinics, since people had slowly started generating interest and were becoming more conscious of their looks, as well as in health and nutrition. Back then, such clinics were in their infancy. Therefore, coming from the same background, and having seen aesthetics bloom worldwide, he was determined to fulfill the vacuum, also expecting to create scope for medical tourism in Nepal. This motivated him to introduce a state-of-the-art clinic in the heart of Kathmandu, with the belief that quality service is of utmost importance in the service industry. By now, he has many locals visiting him, along with Nepalis living abroad and other international clientele.
Body-Jet Liposuction is the newest service provided by Healthy Choice Clinic, and they are the first ones to do so in Nepal. Liposuction is the most established and effective surgical procedure to remove excess fat, with a 40-year record of safety and effectiveness, and it has been performed by surgeons on millions of patients worldwide. There are other liposuction techniques, such as laser liposuction and ultrasonic liposuction, which deliver heat into the fatty layer before the fat is removed with a liposuction cannula. Compared to them, Body-Jet Liposuction provides better results and has a greater margin of safety than heat-producing machines. Since laser, vaser, and ultrasonic liposuction can increase the time of the procedure and increase the risk for additional complications like skin burns, on the contrary, Body-Jet doesn’t have such side effects and has very less risks. The risk is less than one percent, as per Dr. Darshan Kumar Gurung (MD, FPCP & DM) of Healthy Choice. The clinic has its own lab and provides primary cardiology services. Body-Jet Liposuction is considered to be the best and latest liposuction technology available in the world.
How does Body-Jet Liposuction Work?
The Body-Jet Liposuction technique represents a true advance for patients considering liposuction. It is a liposuction system that uses pulsating water injection at the tip of the liposuction cannula (small tube). This gentle water action dislodges the fat cells. The fat is then gently suctioned away. Because the Body-Jet washes the fat from the tissues, there is less discomfort during and after surgery. While Body-Jet Liposuction can be performed with the patient awake, it is usually recommended that the patient have IV sedation or general anesthesia during the liposuction procedure. Anesthesia simply makes the procedure a more comfortable experience.
It is a surgical technique to remove unwanted deposits of fat from specific areas of the body, and may be performed as a primary procedure for body contouring, or may be combined with other surgical techniques of fat transfer. Fat can be injected back into muscle layers through incision where fat is wanted. The best candidates for the procedure are individuals of relatively normal weight with excess fat in particular body areas. A surgical instrument known as cannula is inserted into the area of fat removal. The cannula is attached to a vacuum source that provides gentle suction to remove emulsified or melted fat. This procedure targets fat cells, leaving the collagen matrix intact. After the procedure, it’s important that the fat immediately under the skin is preserved, so that the skin has soft and smooth contours. The fat under the skin provides structural support for the skin, which helps keep the skin beautiful.
The Body-Jet is gentle, so there is usually less swelling, bruising, and pain than with traditional liposuction. This means there can be less down time for patients after surgery, thus leading to a rapid recovery.
Surgery Details
The staff members at Healthy Choice have extensive experience in treating liposuction patients. The team has been trained by Dr. Sandip Jain (MS, Mch, FRCS) from India, a plastic surgeon who has specialized in body contouring. Body-Jet Liposuction is a common procedure, whether performed alone as a single procedure, or in combination with other procedures, such as fat grafting to the breast or buttocks, or various parts of the body like chin, arms, or back of the body.
Very small incisions are usually placed in the hidden areas, such as the bikini line, groin, and belly button. A very small tube is then placed to infiltrate the tissues with tumescent solution. The tumescent solution is made up of saline, adrenaline, and local anesthetic. The liposuction is then performed with the Body-Jet machine and cannulas. The cannulas are small in diameter and have a spray of water at the tip. This pulsating saline at the tip of the cannula dislodges the fat to aid in gentle fat removal. Many, many passes of the cannulas are needed to remove the fat and sculpt the tissues. In some cases, the patient will require special positioning for the proper visualization and access in sculpting the outer thighs, flanks, and buttocks.
After the liposuction is complete, the incisions are typically closed with small external sutures that are removed about one week after the liposuction procedure. The Body-Jet technique results in little retained fluid, so the wounds don’t leak fluid and create a mess, as occurs in standard liposuction procedures. The areas are then covered with gauze pads and a garment like a girdle is placed. Patients are asked to wear the garment for about one week. After that, the garment becomes optional, but many patients continue to wear it for several weeks for comfort and to decrease swelling. Small liposuction can be done under local anesthesia and patients can be discharged on the same day, whereas large and multiple liposuctions are done under general anesthesia for the clients’ comfort. Liposuction can be suction-assisted liposuction, power-assisted, ultrasound, or laser. Body-Jet Liposuction, the latest technique, is water-assisted liposuction.

What is body jet liposuction?
Body jet is water assisted liposuction device. Only device that uses power of water jet for liposuction. This device was originally designed in Germany.
Basic principle and AIM?
The basic principle of body jet is, it uses spray of water to dislodge the fat and easily extract the fat. The aim of surgery is inch loss i.e. body countering.
How is the procedure done?
Two channel cannulas are used, one for emitting spray of a mixture of solution, and another for aspirating fat. The mixture of local anesthesia helps in decreasing post-operative pain.
Recovery time after procedure?
The advantage of body jet liposuction is pain free, so recovery is fast. It takes a week for minimum to moderate liposuction and 2-3 weeks for maximum area for liposuction.
Types of liposuction?
Convectional liposuction may be:
a. Suction-assisted liposuction
b. Power-assisted liposuction
c. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction
d. Laser-assisted liposuction
Now, the latest is water-assisted liposuction known as Body-Jet.
Ideal candidate?
Client with no co-morbidities, normal weight to near normal weight. BMI not more than 33.
Procedure is done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia?
Small liposuction can be done under local anesthesia and discharged on the same day. Large and multiple liposuction is usually done under general anesthesia for client comfort.
Scar after surgery, how many areas can be done?
Scar after body jet is less at site of insertion of cannula. In young clients with BMI less than 33, liposuction can be done over entire lower body in one sitting.
Post-operative advice and follow up for patient?
• Low salt diet to decrease swelling
• Change in lifestyle, diet ,and exercise
• Corset/compressive garment to decrease swelling
• Exercise (minimal liposuction 2-3 weeks, large liposuction 4-6 weeks, next day client can do walking)
• Follow up one week after procedure for stitch removal, and after one month for follow up
• Client should be counselled that it will take 3-6 months for get exact contour
