China’s Vaccine for COVID-19

The Wuhan Institute of Biological Products has announced that its COVID-19 vaccine will be commercially available by the end of December, 2020. Chinese vaccine manufacturer Sinopharm CNBG has begun conducting Phase 3 clinical trials of the vaccine in thousands of human volunteers, after it was found to provoke strong antibody response in its Phase 1 and 2 clinical trials.
Liu Jingzhen, the chairman of Sinopharm, said that two doses of the vaccine will cost less than 1,000 yuan (NRs.17, 405.71).He informed that one dose of the vaccine will provide about 97% protection against the novel corona virus, with two providing 100 per cent, and that, “if you do one shot, the probability of protection is about 97 per cent, antibodies are developing slowly. Usually, about half a month is needed to reach the level sufficient to counter COVID-19. If you do two shots, the probability of protection may reach 100 percent.” The current prescription is two doses (four micrograms per dose) of the vaccine at an interval of 28 days between the shots.
