Obituary to Dr Praveen Mishra

With profound sorrow, MedicosNext magazine mourns the passing away of Prof. Dr. Praveen Mishra, the former Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Population. Dr. Mishra, a stalwart in the medical field, breathed his last in New Delhi while undergoing medical treatment for a sudden heart attack.

Born in 1962, in Pipara, Mahottari district, Prof. Dr. Praveen Mishra was an esteemed figure in the healthcare field. After obtaining his BDS from the University of Bombay in 1985, he furthered his education, earning an MDS in Orthodontics from Manipal Academy of Higher Education in 1995, followed by a Post-doctoral Fellowship from MAHE (Mangalore) in 1996.

Dr. Mishra served as Professor and Head of the Department of Orthodontics at Kantipur Dental College, where his leadership and expertise left an indelible mark on both colleagues and students alike. Prior to this, he held the esteemed position of Head, Department of Dental Surgery at NAMS (Bir Hospital), showcasing his commitment to advancing dental care within the national healthcare system.

Dr. Mishra’s contributions were not confined to academia and clinical practice alone. He served as the Chief of Oral Health Focal Point and Dean of the National Academy of Medical Science, where his strategic vision and administrative acumen contributed significantly to the advancement of oral health initiatives nationwide. He is credited to have started the PG program for the first time at NAMS (National Academy of Medical Sciences) in 2007. This was the milestone and breakthrough point in the postgraduate dental education of Nepal. He was the Founder President of  ODOAN (Orthodontic and Dentofacial Orthopedic Association of Nepal).

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Mishra’s unwavering commitment to excellence and tireless dedication to improving healthcare standards garnered him widespread respect and admiration. His passing leaves a void in the medical community that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
